In the image, Lincoln wears a black T, gold chain, ball cap, and has the word “Linc” tattooed across his neck. Abe appears modern and cool, but wise and firm as the leader we all know. The word “Civility” is blazoned on his ball cap, a call to our better angels and to those that put nation before hyper-partisanship. Further immersing Lincoln in modernity, the background depicts a swirling wall of graffiti. The juxtaposition of old and new in this print is echoed in the combination of a traditional relief printing technique with modern elements, forcing the viewer to imagine Lincoln in our time, examine his lasting impact on our world today, and wonder at the role and life he might have lived if he was alive right now.
